Distance evaluation gives dancers an opportunity to be evaluated by an adjudicator and receive constructive feedback. It is a general assessment of a dancers overall skill. Distance evaluation may be valuable for self-taught dancers and experienced competitors who need specific correction to improve their scores.
Individual Distance Fee: $30.00 for members, $40.00 for non-members. Fee includes one level, 3–4 dances.
Group Distance Fee: Contact us for details about Group Distance Evaluation.
Where Distance Evaluation is an overall assessment of a dancers general skills, Grade exams represent a formal structure for training and assessment that parallels competitive standards. Grade exams may be used by both teachers and students to prepare for competition or as an alternative to competing.
Unlike Distance Evaluation, Grade exams result in a formal record of standing which may set the level at which a dancer begins to compete. Dancers who complete a grade receive a Grade Certificate and an Achievement Medal.
Each grade consists of required skills and knowledge that are identical to those required for competition. See Rules & Regulations.
There are four grades. Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Novice and Prizewinner. In addition to Practical skills, dancers must answer specific knowledge questions.
While Grade exams may be used as an alternative to Competition, every AAID Teacher is encouraged to always teach toward the Grade exams and consider the knowledge questions as part of a student’s overall education. Licensed Instructors MUST teach toward Grade exams and facilitate grade exams in their classrooms.
To view the required dances and practical skills for grade exams, see Feis Rules & Regulations. Below are the oral questions for each grade level.
Questions for this level come from the AAIDT Notation Manual (Level 1) and Introductory Instructor Trainee materials and include history, music and policy.
